Autisme is niet meer weg te denken uit de hedendaagse gezondheidszorg. Er verschijnen maandelijks talloze nieuwe publicaties over de beeldvorming, diagnostiek en behandeling van autisme, maar er worden ook regelmatig levensberichten gepubliceerd van mensen met autisme of ouders die hun zoektocht naar de juiste hulp beschrijven.In 2010 verscheen in de Verenigde Staten het Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) van de hand van Sally Rogers en Geraldine Dawson, beiden bekende onderzoekers en clinici op het gebied van autisme. Dit bijzondere model is gebaseerd op meer dan 25 jaar ervaring. De auteurs pleiten voor evidence-based interventies. Zij geven in dit boek een voorschot op de lopende effectmetingen van hun model. ESDM, gebaseerd op de leertheorie, is sterk ontwikkelingsgericht en biedt ouders en hulpverleners een prachtige, wetenschappelijk verantwoorde interventiemethode, die aansluit bij het leven van alle dag.
